QUALITY: JAR OF FLIES (the ultimate AIC experience) is a gathering of top Seattle musicians with a passion for live energy and true showmanship.
EXPERIENCE: They do not try to look like the bands, act like the bands, or try to “be” the bands; they just painstakingly work to ensure that they sound exactly like the albums.
In honor of Alice in Chains, the Seattle-based tribute band brings an authentic and powerful sonic experience to the stage.
Join us for an amazing destination experience at 90s Flannel Fest!

Jason Kertson has been drawn to music his whole life. He began learning to play the guitar at age 7 and mastering the instrument has been his passion ever since. He began performing in coffee houses and other venues when he was only 9.
His favorite artists from early on were Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac, Alice in Chains, and The Sonics (one of Jason’s grandfathers is Rob Lind who is an original member of this iconic Seattle band).
In February, 2011, Ray William Johnson, a YouTube Icon, tweeted “everybody is looking for the next Justin Bieber. My money is on this kid” and he attached a link of a YouTube video that was recorded when Jason was 12. Jason had 250,000 YouTube views that week. This generated a lot of interest from people in the music business.
One of the people who expressed interest in working with Jason was Dave Mustaine of Megadeth. This has led to a mentoring relationship, and Jason recorded a demo in Dave’s studio (Vic’s Garage). Jason has also performed on multiple occasions with Dave’s daughter, Electra Mustaine.
In 2013, Jason auditioned for “The Voice” Season 5 and had a five minute on air segment. Though he didn’t move forward in the show, that exposure brought him thousands of loyal fans.
In December 2013, Duff McKagan of Guns n’ Roses contacted Jason and asked if he would play guitar in the Pink Slips, a band that his daughter Grace was forming. They performed together for the first time in Seattle on New Year’s Eve 2013 and recorded an EP in 2014.
As a guitarist, he is very diverse in his abilities; from very complex acoustic styles to technically challenging electric guitar solos. As a vocalist, his soulful voice has always defied his age. As a writer, his insightful lyrics are moving and relatable, and his music is powerful and melodic. He has hundreds of original songs to his credit.
We`ve been absolutely blessed to not only watch our good friend, Jace Kertson, grow as an individual, human, guitarist and vocalist over the years, but we`ve also been fortunate to have him join us onstage at more Layne Staley Tributes over the years than any other guest musician over the last 20+ years.
Originally from Virginia Beach, Jake Carden moved to Seattle in search of musical fulfillment. He’s since made his name as a next-level guitarist, bassist and vocalist for such bands as Ten Miles Wide, The Pimpsons and The Famished, as well as an in-demand touring and session musician. His solo act features loop jams and array of original songs guaranteed to have something in store for everyone.
Lucky for us, Jake is a great friend, and he blesses us with his presence and guitar prowess each year to thicken up that signature AiC sound. You`ll also notice that this man`s genuine passion for live music adds a noticeable pep to our stage presence.
See Mr. Carden and many more special guests this Saturday at Neptune Theatre as we honor Layne`s music, life and legacy yet again with fans from across the globe.
Layne Staley Tribute 2024 Guest Performer: Tim Branom Music
Branom was originally based in Seattle, but it was only after moving to Los Angeles that he found the elements of the two environments would greatly contribute to his music. By Producing, writing liner notes, mastering and editing, his name can be found on hundreds of CD`s. And, as a producer in the genres of Pop/Jazz/Blues, his credits also include working with rock bands including Alice In Chains vocalist Layne Staley, bassist Mike Starr, alongside greats such as Nile Rodgers & Bob Clearmountain for Rock Band 2, and a partnership with guitarist Steve Vai for a Classical Music label called Classical Nation.
For most of the 90s, Branom sang for Cloud Nine until going out on his own as a solo artist while being sponsored by JVC Records Japan. He then worked as a guitarist in the studio with Days Of The New, performed and recorded with Carly Smithson (American Idol, The Fallen) and even briefly fronted Fifth Angel.
Tim Branom is a BMI songwriter. His music has been featured in TV shows (The Tonight Show, MTV) and films such as The Marsh. His hometown roots have made him a go-to interview for books about the Seattle music scene of the 80s and 90s, discussing grunge, Alice In Chains and the early metal scene. He was named one of the Top 15 Alternative Rock Artists of 2016 by Alternative Nation Magazine.
Tim performed original material at last year’s tribute, and he will be joining Jar of Flies on stage yet again for this year’s Layne Staley Tribute concert at Neptune Theatre.

Brendan Maier is an American musician and vocalist who originally hails from Joliet, IL, and currently resides in Vancouver, WA. After gaining notoriety from a number of popular music blogs and music videos gone viral for being a dead ringer for Layne, Maier joined us for the first time at the old Crocodile venue in 2019 for the annual tribute show.
Since then, Brendan Maier has become a part of our family, officially fronting Jar of Flies for the past 5 years and moving cross-country to make his home in Washington State. He’s been featured at the last 5 tributes, he’ll surely bring the house down at Neptune on the 24th, and we hope you join us for another special occasion where we’ll pay our respects to Layne Staley, his legacy, music and memory.
